Austria’s ÖVSV headquarters in Vienna also hosts the secretariat of IARU Region 1 — the body that coordinates amateur radio across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. OE stations enjoy Alpine VHF conditions the rest of us envy: put 5 watts on a 2,000-metre summit and half the continent can hear you. SOTA activity here is a way of life.
