Amateur radio here

Soviet amateur radio began in Nizhny Novgorod: in January 1925 Fyodor Lbov, signing R1FL, made one of the first authorised amateur transmissions in the USSR and was heard as far away as Mesopotamia. Through the Soviet era the hobby lived in DOSAAF club stations, where generations of operators learned CW before touching a microphone. Today European Russia is one of the loudest signals on any band — and it is my home DXCC, worked from my own rooftop.
