Amateur radio here
In November 1923 Frenchman Léon Deloy, 8AB, made the first two-way transatlantic amateur contact with American station 1MO — the QSO that opened the shortwave era for the whole hobby. The REF was founded two years later. The Eiffel Tower itself began life partly justified as a radio mast, which is the most French thing imaginable.
National society: REF (Réseau des Émetteurs Français), 1925
