Italy is Marconi’s homeland, and the ARI, founded in 1927, had Guglielmo Marconi himself as honorary president. Italian amateurs honour that lineage loudly — I and IZ calls fill the SSB portions of every band, and the annual Marconi Memorial contests keep the founder’s name in the log. Bologna, his birthplace, remains a pilgrimage site for radio people.
