Romania’s YO prefix has been active since the interwar years, and the country maintained a surprisingly lively amateur scene even through the strictest decades of the socialist era, organised through radio clubs. Today the YO DX HF Contest each summer is a fixture of the European calendar, and Romanian operators are reliably loud from the Carpathians.
