QRZ.com: easy. QRZ.RU: an ordeal. eQSL: send help
Registering everywhere a fresh callsign is supposed to be, and finding out not all of "everywhere" is equally friendly.
Okay so today’s mission was “get UB3BIJ registered on all the places” and I am only about 60% done, but I want to write it down before I forget how annoying part of it was.
QRZ.com — genuinely five minutes. Made an account, verified the callsign, filled the bio, uploaded a photo, done. Whoever built that onboarding, thank you, you understood the assignment.
QRZ.RU — this should be the easy one, it’s literally the Russian one, right? Wrong. I don’t even fully know what happened, there was some page about confirming through the federal register and I just sat there like… okay. I’ll come back to this one when I have more patience. Not today.
eQSL — I opened it and just started laughing a little. No offense to anyone who built it, I know it works and people love it, but the interface looks like it hasn’t been touched since before I was born. I clicked around for ten minutes trying to find where you actually upload your log and honestly gave up for tonight. I WILL figure it out, I’m just going to need a cup of tea and lower expectations first.
Honestly the thing I keep thinking is: I love paper QSL more anyway. There’s something a form on a 2004-styled website can’t give you that an actual card in your actual mailbox can. So maybe I’m not even mad that eQSL is being difficult, it’s just nudging me toward the thing I wanted to do regardless.
Anyway. Two out of three accounts exist now, the callsign is starting to feel real, and the mailbox situation from China is still… a whole separate post. Coming soon probably, because I keep checking it like it’s going to speed up the shipping.
